Three graphic word pictures give vivid descriptions of the troubles coming upon the earth and its people. The pictures show the breaking open of seven seals, the sounding of seven trumpets, and the emptying of seven shallow bowls. The troubles revealed in each picture are similar but increasing in their intensity. In between the unveiling of each picture the presenter pauses. What he draws attention to during those pauses is explained in the Notes for Lesson 4.

Three times in the description of the ever intensifying waves of tribulation rolling in over the earth there is a pause. During those pauses the triumph of the Lord and his people over Satan and his followers is described.
